The cannabutter recipe is not complex, but it is important to follow each step and use the right utensils to make sure it comes out perfectly.
First, we are going to see everything needed to make our cannabutter, and then get our hands stuck into it; literally!
When you want to roll a cigarette you need a few basic ingredients such as smoking papers, filters, etc. Well, the same goes for cannabutter, you have to have all of the ingredients ready before cooking.
Before listing them, you must consider that the total amount of plant material used per person can vary, depending on the type of marijuana or the intensity of the flavor you want in the butter.
The best thing to do is to start off with a mild recipe, using the indicated ingredients but changing the amount of buds and/or leaves with resin as you discover what best suits you.
What are the ingredients? We’ve listed them for you below:
You may see that many recipes only refer to buds, but as you can see they are not essential. You can also make your own cannabutter using those leaves with the most resin, and the result is very similar.
Another classic question is butter or margarine? This can depend on individual taste, but the result is not the same, so choose the option best suited to your palate. The ideal choice is usually butter.
Using the right utensils is 50% of any recipe and cannabutter is no exception.
Make sure you have everything you need before you start cooking, because if you suddenly discover you need a certain utensil when you are halfway through the recipe, it can ruin everything and you will have to start all over again.
The basic utensils for this recipe are the following:
Do you have everything? Well then let’s get started! This is how cannabutter is made, step by step:
Step 1 – Crumble up the marijuana
You can’t just put it in directly, at least you shouldn’t. If you crumble it up, the reaction will be better when mixed with the butter.
A blender is commonly used for this, but a good grinder like the ones available from Smoking can also be a good option.
Step 2 – Boil the marijuana
Put all of the plant in water and gradually bring to a boil on a very low heat. It should take about 20 minutes.
Why do this? It removes the chlorophyll flavor and almost every impurity. It will mean it has a much better taste and will be ideal when mixed with the butter.
Step 3 – Boil the butter
Now it is the butter’s turn. Very similar to the previous step. Put it in water on a very low heat, but make sure the butter does not boil.
Step 4 – Mix the ingredients
Wait until the butter is completely melted and then mix in all of the plant.
Keep the heat low and slowly but constantly stir. Don’t stop stirring the mix!
How long do you have to stir for? Around 30 minutes. But it doesn’t have to be intense stirring. A soft stirring rhythm should be enough for an even butter.
Step 5 – Filter the butter
Use the strainer and filter the butter. You will see it becomes greener in color, which is completely normal.
Step 4 – Rest
One thing to remember about cannabutter; you can’t enjoy it the same day as you make it. The recipe works best the more time you have, so remember to start cooking way before your guest are invited over.
First you need to leave it to rest at room temperature for two hours, so that it properly cools down.
Then put it in the refrigerator and wait another 24 hours, so that there is a layer of perfectly textured butter floating on the water which looks like a typical bit of butter, just green.
Step 5 – Remove the layer
The next day you need to remove the layer of cannabutter from the container and put it in another to store and use after.
Step 6 – Enjoy it!
Your cannabutter is ready. Use it on toast or to enhance other recipes, the choice is yours!
Not planning on using it all at once? No worries. You can keep it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks without it losing any of its properties. You can even freeze it, but in this case it is best to cut it into several slices to use whenever you need.
When rating our cannabutter we know that we have to assess two key factors: the flavor and the effects.
In terms of taste, you can try your cannabutter on its own or mix it with some fruits, sugar, or spices to suits your taste buds.
In regard to the effects, remember that enjoying a Smoking cone is not the same as having a little cannabutter. When you smoke you enjoy around 40% of the marijuana, but with these kinds of recipes you get to enjoy it all.
So in order to ensure that the effects are not too strong, we first suggest that you control the amounts of cannabis you put in and gradually perfect your culinary technique.
